YOGIC ANATOMY

Deepen your knowledge and apply it to practice with “The Yogi’s Chiropractor,” Dr. Jeremy Brook.

  • Dr. Jeremy Brook has been recruited to teach Yogic Anatomy by some of America’s most prominent yoga teachers, including Saul David Raye, Matthew Cohen, Shiva Rae, Sianna Sherman, Dan Ward, Tony Giuliano, and Ally Hamilton to name a few. Dr. Brook has also been featured as a guest writer for LA Yoga Ayurveda & Health Magazine.

Dr. Jeremy Brook has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and is a recognized specialist in the fields of chiropractic and yogic anatomy. His workshops combine modern western science and chiropractic principles of alignment coupled with the ancient art of Hatha Yoga.

Dr. Jeremy Brook enlightens yogis and teachers as to the biomechanical and energetic nature of human anatomy and physiology, with an emphasis on the spine.

“Having lived in the yoga community,” says Dr. Brook, “It has been my experience that yogis and teachers are extremely knowledgeable in the language of asana, but are deficient in joint anatomy. Being that humans have different body mind constitutions that don’t fit into one distinct style or system, some ‘final shape postures’ may never happen because one’s architecture isn’t designed to move in that manner. So I created a curriculum to teach them how the body moves and flows from a chiropractic standpoint.”

It is easy for the yoga student to get buried deep in the biomechanics, physiology and neurology of the human body. Nevertheless, having a basic understanding of these subjects can propel you to a higher level of health and connectedness. This knowledge results in less pain, fewer injuries, accelerated recovery time, and enhanced performance.

When we combine the science of the west with the philosophy of the east we get a complete person… a whole person… not just a body, not just a mind… but a mind connected to the body through an intricate connection of nerves that are clear of interference.

    Topics Include:

    • Basic Architecture of the Human Body: Special Emphasis on the Spine

    • The Neurology of Yoga and its Supreme Position at the top of the Wellness Revolution

    • Basic Archetypal Distortion Patterns and Common Injuries

    • Scientific Healing Vinyasa Sequences

SPINAL BIOMECHANICS SERIES

This is a special series for yoga teachers and advanced practitioners to dive deeper into anatomy and biomechanics as it relates to asana.

Each module is holistic in nature, explaining how each region of the spine affects the whole.

Due to a deficiency of anatomy awareness and correct biomechanics in the yoga teacher trainings, teachers’ knowledge base is minimal in these fields. Dr. Jeremy Brook fills the knowledge gaps through his workshops where principles of alignment, movement, and modern neurology are taught through the lens of asana.

In these modules, which can be taken independently or in a sequence, you will discover how the joints of the spine are shaped and configured. With that foundational information, the teacher and student will have a new level of understanding and awareness of the biomechanics and how the body moves, ultimately resulting in a safer practice that is constructive rather than destructive. This new understanding of how poses are structured will surely benefit their students’ practice.

  • Discover everything you need to know about the neck, a.k.a. the cervical spine, and how yoga influences it. In this workshop we will learn the 9 correct movements of the neck as well as the most common ones you should never do. We will spend time looking at what is actually happening to the shape of the neck during the most common cues and will discuss what and why some cues should be retired. Students will be given techniques for unlocking the neck from pain and distress by integrating a scientifically designed sequence based on the laws of biomechanics.

Students will leave this workshop with a clear understanding of how the neck moves and the positioning of the head and neck in yoga poses so that they can keep themselves and their students safe.

  • Discover everything you needed to know about the anatomy and motion of the low back, a.k.a. the lumbar spine. In this workshop students will learn advanced bio-mechanical principles of the lumbar spine for optimal alignment. We will look at which motions should be emphasized and those that should be minimized as well as which poses should be practiced daily to maximize optimal lumbar health. We will discuss common back injuries and how to unlock the low back from pain and distress by integrating a scientifically designed sequence based on the laws of biomechanics.

Students and teachers alike will leave this workshop with a clear understanding of the workings of the lumbar spine in order to keep themselves and their students safe.

  • Discover everything you needed to know about the anatomy and motion of the sacrum and pelvis, the SI Joint. In this workshop we’ll look at common misalignments of the pelvis and how to correct it through yoga. Students will learn to see and or feel this misalignment in common standing, seated, prone, supine and inverted poses and will leave with a clear understanding of how the pelvis, sit bones and tailbone move anatomically and bio-mechanically in forward folds and backbends.

  • In this workshop you will go on an anatomical journey through all the regions of the spine. You’ll learn about the shape and configuration of the joints for each region, and how to safely maximize your twist for your neck, low back, and pelvis. We will look at rotational anatomy & biomechanics for the spine and pelvis, discovering the top 5 most commonly injured areas caused by twisting and how to create optimal twisting using a full body sequence.

  • In this embodied workshop we will spotlight the human spine and the guiding, supportive soft tissue structures that maintain our living backbone. Students will learn the 10 points to cultivate optimal posture designed to combat the compressive effects of gravity as well as the geometry and balance of the natural curves of the spine.
